Celebrity Watch: Kate Winslet in New York

Kate Winslet, who left us wowed as usual at the Oscars, does it again here more informally on her way back from taping with close pal Leonardo DiCaprio and husband director Sam Mendes.

Kate Winslet is no ordinary creature. And no ordinary Hollywood star. She is the youngest person in history to receive five Academy Award nominations. A winner of a Grammy and a Screen Actors Guild award, the Winslet woman seems stunningly down-to-earth for someone so visually and theatrically blessed. Her commitment to period movies including Quills, Titanic, and Finding Neverland has earned her the title “Corset Kate.”

Unlike what she dons in most of her glamorous movie premieres, we see her in a recent photograph dressed down from a shoot for Revolutionary Road co-starring Leonardo Di Caprio, her close friend and costar from Titanic. The movie is based on the 1961 novel written by Richard Yates about a couple based in 1950’s Connecticut that buys a home together but whose marriage starts falling apart because of jealousy. This is the first time since their Titanic pairing in 1997 that the two have worked together, and also the first time Sam Mendes has directed his wife and DiCaprio.

Blue Belle
Back to our heroine, Winslet wins our hearts in this outfit, what can only be translated as cuteness. The 31-year-old mother of two walks off from a long day of shooting (in some sweltering heat we might add) wearing a blue multi-striped tank, navy capris and trendy blue ballet flats. Winslet has previously been in the press for the fact that she refuses to cater to the film industry’s standards of thinness for A-list actresses. An English rose with fashion sense and ethics. It doesn’t get much better than that.

When Kate’s not filming blockbuster movies, she and husband-director Sam divide their time between a flat in New York City, a lake house in the country, and a manor house in an English village. It pays to be young and talented, which the Katester certainly is.
