Gallery: Golden Globe predictions and favourites

Shiny Style has news of the celebs who'll be attending Sunday's Golden Globes ceremony, and with a red carpet line-up that includes the likes of Brad and Angelina, Drew Barrymore, Blake Lively, Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Lopez and Salma Hayek, we can expect some memorable moments. So now we can move onto important things...like predicting what they'll wear (and more importantly, what we wish they'd wear).

Armani couture is always a favourite at award shows (especially if Beyonce, Cate or Katie are in attendance) so no doubt someone will turn up in one of Georgio's understatedly glam frocks. This black one with silver trim is a good bet.

The Globes are one of the only award shows where it's (just about) acceptable to wear a shorter dress. Balmain is the name on everyone's lips - perhaps Kate Winslet will follow on the success of her Revolutionary Road premiere outfit and wear another risky LBD to show off her enviable figure? Or perhaps someone else will have the guts to go where Gemma Arterton lead the way in one of the chiffon micro-mini dresses with long trains in the back?

No doubt there'll be plenty of black on the red carpet, but just because it's classic, it doesn't have to be boring. British designers Basso and Brooke modernise a black satin dress with a signature print across the hem. This would be perfect for a young, fashion-forward attendee, though I doubt anyone will have the guts to go for it!

Speaking of edgy black dresses, no doubt some Carolina Herrera will crop up on Sunday night. Hopefully, it'll be this strapless fishtail number with an almost wet-look top.

Roberto Cavalli knows how to do over the top glamour, and this dress, with its sea anemone-like frills down the skirt, is just that. I would love to see this on someone who normally wears plain, classic clothes, just to spice things up a bit!

Though it may be just a bit too ostentatious in its catwalk form, I think this Dior couture dress would be brilliant with a few modifications. Either changing it to a block colour or removing the fur trim, it suddenly becomes a wearable - if very dramatic - cocktail frock that'll definitely command attention!

Romantic, feminine and flattering, this lilac Elie Saab dress is bound to appear on the Red Carpet at some point. I can see Blake Lively in this, softening her Amazonian figure with the gentle drapes.

Another romantic, feminine option, this time from Jenny Packham, who's been cropping up on the red carpet loads recently, especially on younger celebs. Will Hayden Panettiere forego the usual fitted mini dresses in favour of something more girly?

Jonathan Saunders' move to New York put him up there with the big players, and this dress from his Spring / Summer 2009 show screams red carpet glam. Anne Hathaway, I hope you're listening!

Golden Globes, golden dress. Why not? Marchesa and the red carpet are synonymous now, and this is one of the few dresses that we haven't already seen more than once at big events. Who'll wear it? We'll have to wait and see...

Colour has been sadly lacking recently - are people dressing down because of the recession? Whatever the reason, big events like the Golden Globes are the perfect excuse to go bold. I love the soft ombre fading of this Naeem Khan dress, and the embellished bust tops it off perfectly. Perhaps one for bohemian attendee Cameron Diaz?

The Nina Ricci collection was one of many that featured the new gown silhouette that's short at the front and long in the back (Balmain, Elie Saab and others also used this shape). Will Nina Ricci devotee Reese Witherspoon be there to give this frock an airing (sans coat?) Or will someone else give the look a go? Here's hoping someone is leggy enough to pull it off!

Rodarte are amongst the crop of current fashion darlings, so their delicate, beautifully constructed dresses are everywhere...who'll be wearing this number on the night? We shall see!

If I don't see something from Versace's heart-covered range at the Globes, I'll be very surprised. This white frock is probably the biggest show-stopper, so here's hoping it's picked by a savvy stylist.

Gianni Versace's mansion becomes local tourist attraction

As far a tacky goes, this could just about take the cake... The mansion where the late Gianni Versace was shot dead, has been opened to the public as a local tourist attraction. Now, ten years after his death, inquiring minds can visit the palatial grounds of Casa Casuarina in Miami Beach, for the price of $50 (£27) a tour, which includes a guide dressed in a Versace gown. Gross, huh?

Versace was gunned down on the steps of his home in a brutal attack in 1997. His death shocked the fashion industry, who paid tribute to the late designer last July, with a celeb-studded dinner and opera performance in Milan, hosted by Donatella Versace and her family.

The estate's current owner, Peter Loftin, first turned Casa Casuarina into a private club, before renting it out for overnight stays and special events. Now, visitors can pay to see the 1930-built home, which features an observatory overlooking Miami Beach, and a guest room designed especially for Madonna.

"It's too magical a place not to share with a wider audience," said Loftin.

Sure, as long as you can make a quick buck off someone's death in the process, why not? Give me a break! This is beyond disrespectful.

Allegra and Daniel Versace join R&B stars front row at Milan shows

The fashion set flocked to Milan at the weekend to check out the menswear we'll be seeing this autumn and winter. And looking on as Donatella Versace brought back the double-breasted jacket and low-waisted trousers in a collection dominated by navy, burgundy and brown were her children Allegra, 21 and 18-year-old Daniel.

The siblings joined R&B stars Jay Z, Kelly Rowland and Beyonce - the face of Armani's Diamonds fragrance – in the front row at the presentation. Next stop for the music trio was the alpine-inspired Emporio Armani show, which featured monochrome ski wear embellished with a flurry of snow-like sparkles and Scandinavian-style sweaters.

At Alexander McQueen enormous fluffy sheepskins, Russian-style fur stoles and over-size jerseys were teamed with boho headscarfs to ensure the McQueen man stays toasty even in the most Arctic conditions.

Also presenting her vision of next winter at the shows, which were packed into four days to fit around Paris menswear and couture, was Vivienne Westwood. The flame-haired designer delivered sports chic interpreted through baggy patterned trousers and t-shirts in bold hues of purple, aqua marine and orange.

Buy Elizabeth Hurley's safety pin Versace dress

We all remember that little black dress held together by safety pins (pictured above surrounded by models) that Elizabeth Hurley wore to the London premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral back 1994. "As the Hepburn dress proved, however old the design a little black dress will always be a stunning classic."

Milan looks back at the genius called Versace

Milan is celebrating the genius of a man called Gianni Versace. Ten years after he was murdered, the iconic designer is being remembered in Milan for his contribution to the world of fashion.

The man who gave the world, or at least a few very rich people, extraordinary metallic garments and breathtaking stage costumes, Vesace is remembered by a ballet in his honour titled Thank You, Gianni, With Love.

Other events include an exhibit of Versace's sketches of theatre costumes on Milan streets, and the establishment of a scholarship in his honour at the European Institute of Design in Milan.

"Truly, his enthusiasm, his spontaneity was something that would strike you and this thing so innate in him, even when he became famous, he never lost it. He was always the same. And this was a characteristic that I have never noticed in other designers in the fashion industry,” said Carla Fendi, Designer.

Gianni started his craft at the age of 22 and went on to build the Versace fashion empire from his studio in the centre of Milan.

His elaborate stage costumes for Elton John in the late '80s helped cement his reputation. He was gunned down outside his mansion in Miami Beach, Florida on July 15, 1997.

$300,000 fashion raid

A HYDE Park high-fashion boutique had more than $300,000 worth of clothing stolen early today.Thieves used a sledge hammer and bolt cutters to smash the front gate and glass door of Xile fashion store on Unley Rd about 4am.

Police said at least two men were involved in the heist of handbags, men's suits and women's jackets.

The most expensive imported items stolen include a gold Cavalli jacket valued at $4500 and a $5000 Versace handbag.

Manager Sandy Porcaro said there is a huge demand for the products on the black market.

"It is extremely upsetting," she said.

"This is pretty identifiable stock.

"I imagine they came in and cased-out the place beforehand because the targeted all the new season stock."

Ms Porcaro said some of the stock had to be ordered internationally 18 months ago making it "almost impossible" to replace.

"Racks of Dolce & Gabbana suits were taken and they range between $2000 and $2800 each," she said.

"We have very good security here but there's only so much you can do."

Detectives and forensic investigators examined the scene and it is believed the burglars made earlier attempts to gain entry to the building through the roof.

The robbery comes only three months after thieves smashed their way through the front door of Alexis George Boutique on Unley Rd.

About 130 hand-made designer dresses valued at more than $200,000 were stolen.

Police arrested two men and seized almost 100 of the stolen dresses after help from the public led them to raid a house in Holden Hill on March 21.

Police said the dresses were being advertised on E-bay and sold with the original store labels still in tact.

Versace and TAG to design luxury interior for private A319 jet

Italian fashion house Versace and Swiss business aviation services firm TAG Aircraft Interiors have secured their first interior design project for an Airbus A319 corporate jet.
The A319, one of the largest private aircraft available, is for a European client and will go into service in the fourth quarter of 2008.

Versace will design the aircraft interior, which will have 16 seats in a four-compartment arrangement: salon, galley, business office, and stateroom with en suite bathroom.

It will feature executive armchairs embossed with Versace’s signature Greek fret motif, furniture made of the best materials, and exclusive finishes and luxury detailing spanning the four cabins of the aircraft.

Versace and TAG Aircraft Interiors joined forces in April last year to create an interior design service for private jet owners. Versace is responsible for all aspects of content, design and style, while TAG Aircraft Interiors manages the sales, marketing, logistical and technical aspects of the completion contract.

Versace Heiress Hits Out at Top Designers

Fashion heiress Francesca Versace has criticized Stella McCartney for using supermodels when she presented her end-of-course fashion show at London's St. Martin's College.

The stylish 23-year-old student, who is the niece of iconic designers Gianni and Donatella Versace, counts a number of leading catwalk models as close friends -- but she doesn't want their fame to detract from her clothes when she presents her designs.

However, the budding McCartney -- now 33 -- had no reservations about recruiting Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell to strut their stuff on the college catwalk.

Versace says, "I don't think it's appropriate to use supermodels in a college show. I know Naomi and Eva Herzigova but I wouldn't ask them.

"I want people to concentrate on my clothes."

Versace's Daughter Battling Anorexia

Fashion queen Donatella Versace's daughter Allegra is under medical care, battling a serious eating disorder.

The Versace heir's father, Paul Beck, has released a statement confirming his daughter is anorexic.

He writes, "Allegra has been battling anorexia, a very serious disease, for many years. She is receiving the best medical care possible to help overcome this illness and is responding well.

"We are doing our best to protect our daughter.

"However, due to numerous media reports, we want to let everyone know that we appreciate their concern for Allegra, and we ask that her privacy be respected at this time."

Donatella, 52, has expressed her heartache and has admitted Allegra was being "consumed" by the illness, and pleaded with the media to "respect our pain."
She says, "My daughter is very ill. Anorexia is consuming her and we are very worried.

However, the doctors are doing all they can to snatch her away from this cruel disease and we have faith in them.

"Please think of us and respect our pain. Many mothers will know well what I am going through and what my daughter is risking."
