Red Carpet Gallery: stars at the 2009 Critics Choice Awards

Dubbed as one of the big indicators of the Oscars, last night the A list were out in force for the 2009 Critics Choice Awards in Los Angeles. Brad and Angelina, Amy Adams, Penelope Cruz, Kate Beckinsale, Anne Hathaway and Eva Longoria were among the stars who turned up to see who would snap up the first big awards of the season.
Anne Hathaway continues her almost flawless run on the red carpet in an edgy but fabulous black and white number from Gianfranco Ferre.
Her transformation into Barbie is almost complete! Poor, gorgeous Amanda Bynes seems to have been bit a little too hard by the Herve Leger bug. And don't get me started on the tan! Yes, she looks hot as hell, but this is hardly fashion-forward three seasons in. The bandage dress really only works if you wear it unexpectedly (see Winslet, Kate for details). Yawn, yawn, yawn.
In her favourite strapless silhouette, Amy Adams goes for the exact blue colour I predicted she'd wear at the Golden Globes. Well, I wasn't far off, and this classic Oscar de la Renta looks great on her.
Angie goes Goddess-like in her Max Azria floor-length number. This woman could make a sack look good, but I do wish she'd go for something more adventurous. Angelina goes from strapless to shapeless and back again...maybe something different on Sunday?
In a gold satin wrapover dress with perfect accessories (love those shoes) Elizabeth Banks gets it spot on. I'm not so sure about the ageing hairdo (been talking to Ken Paves, have we?) but the rest looks great. This colour is not always good on blondes, but she pulls it off.
Eva Longoria knows the cocktail dress works for her, and she's picked the perfect colour in this aqua Monique Lhuillier. The nude heels are a nice change from sparkly sandals too.
The time will come when Evan Rachel Wood wants to look younger, and she'll look back on pictures like this and wonder why she felt the need to put on quite so much blusher and liner. Her dress, however, is an improvement on the Goth look she uncomfortably sported on the arm of Marilyn Manson. I love the long sleeves and the glam embellishment. If this is not vintage, it's a great modern reworking of an old style.

Statuesque in fishtail aubergine J. Mendel, Kate Beckinsale looks more and more like her celeb pal Victoria Beckham every day. While I'm glad she's ditched the massive hollywood waves and unnecessary highlights, the sleek hair's doing nothing for me, even though it shows off the jewels. I want to shake her and tell her to loosen up just a little bit!
Showing off her, ahem, assets in a 30s style frock (don't quote me on this, but I'm going to bet it's vintage, or created from an old nightdress) Katie leaves the quirky to Zooey Deschanel for a night and tries out old-school glam. And I kinda like it (love the hair sans fringe)!
At Catwalk Queen we're always ranting on about people who play safe and don't take risks, so Marisa Tomei gets our vote for picking something that's very, very tricky to wear. Picking something that turns your tum into a target isn't the best idea, but I think she pulls it off (from this angle).

Nickelodeon's 2008 Kids' Choice Awards: Miley Cyrus, Cameron Diaz, Ashlee Simpson and America Ferrera

It's Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards for 2008 and many young starlets made an appearance on the orange carpet. Miley Cyrus showed off her style in this black dress embellished with rows of silver beads. She's only 15 but she's sure showing off her stylish choices on and off the red carpet - remember that gorgeous red Valentino gown she wore to the Oscars?

Cameron Diaz looked fresh and cool in her printed mini dress and white bolero. I love that she accessorized with an orange clutch and white sandals, both colours compliment each other and her dress so well, and of course the mini dress shows off her great legs.

Now does anyone else want to reach into the photo and brush the hair out of Ashlee Simpson's face? Wearing a grey strapless dress that was rather shapeless on her slim frame, Simpson tried to create the illusion of hips with a black belt which doesn't seem to sit right at all. But I do love the Chanel cut and bright orange sandals, they just give the outfit a pop of colour missing everywhere else in her look.

America Ferrera chose to dress up a little for her red carpet walk, wearing a sand coloured dress which hugged and flared it all the right placed. Girls if you're looking for ideas for Prom, America's look could be easily copied.

Who's look did you like best?

Abigail Clancy at Brit Awards 2008

I'm still not 100 per cent sure who Abigail Clancy is. From what I can gather, she was once a runner-up on Britain's Next Top Model and is now a WAG (girlfriend of English footballer Peter Crouch). I think that pretty much explains why I'm now seeing her in this... erm... sheath?! Grab some stretchy material, cut two holes out for your arms and a bigger one for your head and ladies, you've got yourself a hoisery style dress! Even on the off-chance that Abi wasn't aware her sheath was see-through, surely her underwear alone deserves a gentle rap across the knuckles. Honestly... it's the Brit Awards; there are children watching!

Brit Awards 2008 red carpet: Kelly Rowland, Natasha Bedingfield & Rihanna

While Kylie and the Girls Aloud ladies chose to show off some leg, Kelly Rowland, Natasha Bedingfield and Rihanna showed them how it's really done in their silver mini dresses at the 2008 Brit Awards last night.

It seemed like Kelly's silver feather mini dress was made just for her and kudos for her for going down the feathered path. Natasha chose to go with a silver shift dress featuring loads of embellishment making her really shine. I'd rather hoped she'd gone with a pair of brightly coloured shoes, instead of black which just seems to weigh her look down a little. But gorgeous dress nonetheless. Meanwhile Rihanna's silver strapless mini dress by Giambattista Valli shimmered against her gorgeous skin, and accessorised to perfection with perfectly coiffed hair.

Brit Awards 2008 red carpet: Kylie Minogue and Girls Aloud

The 2008 Brit Awards was held last night at Earls Court in London and for once a red carpet event was not full of dull coloured long gowns! For the Brit Award crowd it was all about showing off the legs in thigh high or mini length dresses. Well if you've got it, flaunt it.

Kylie Minogue wore a sparkly black strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline by Vicky Tiel which she contrasted with very cool heels and bright tangerine nails. Meanwhile, Girls Aloud provided support for bandmate, Cheryl Cole (nee Tweedy) as all four girls wore dresses that were cinched at the waist and showed off their pins. I wonder if it was a conscious thing to have the girls in black and white not standing next to each other? I love Nicola Roberts' red leopard print dress, but I don't understand why a bright pink clutch is the accessory de jour for the girls. Perhaps it's just a match-y match-y thing?

Check out the winner's list below.

So who won what? Here's the winner's list from the 2008 Brit Awards:

Outstanding Contribution To Music: Paul McCartney

Strapless gowns with long trains were favored by a lot of celebrities that impressed. A lot of stars chose to make their sartorial statements sans adornments. Necklaces, for example, appeared conspicuous by their absence. Similarly, hair styling was subdued.

Christina Applegate dazzles at 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards

Christina Applegate dazzled in her Elie Saab silver sequined gown at the 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, The Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, January 27.

The sleeveless old Hollywood style train dress had a deep V-neckline and wide inset Empire waist ending in a layered floor gazing scalloped hem.

Talking about her dress Applegate said, "I'm like a baby with shiny things! It's beautiful and it swishes on the bottom."

The gorgeous dress draped so well on her that it took away attention from her light colored eye makeup that did not go well with her light colored dress. Her red lipstick was, however, the right match.

She wore beautiful Neil Lane diamond earrings and a pearl bracelet.

Christina Applegate who plays Samantha in the Samanth Who? (ABC) was nominated for an award in the category 'Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor In A Comedy Series'
The award was won by Tina Fey / Liz Lemon - "30 Rock" (Nbc)

In a recent interview with Redbook magazine for its February issue Christina, 36, who was married to longtime boyfriend and actor Johnathon Schaech from 2001 to 2005, said she wants to have kids and doesn't mind doing it on her own.

"I want to have that experience in this lifetime, of raising a human being and watching them grow and move on a become an adult... If I end up doing it on my own, I don't see anything wrong with that."

She continues to be friends with Johnathon.

"We saw each other [at Les Deux Cafe], we're friends, and I adore him - he's a great person. We just talked and hung out for a little while and that was the end of it."

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt tease the press at 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards

Angelina Jolie and partner Brad Pitt walked the red carpet at the 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, The Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, January 27 looking in love and happy for sure.

What the press was interested in knowing was if Jolie is pregnant but by the way she was attired there was no telling.

She wore a dress that comprehensively concealed her body form, giving the press no chance to speculate about a pregnancy, or perhaps baiting it to do so.

For anyone who chose not to make a connection between her dress and the pregnancy rumors there was the intimacy and public display of affection between Jolie and Pitt to contend with while they sat at their table during the awards.

Angelina looked gorgeous in her flowing strapless vintage Hermes gown with a long train tie-dyed in earthy colors.

The sweetheart neckline dress was a welcome change from the blacks and greys that Jolie has safely stuck with during her recent red carpet appearances.

It wasn't an easy dress to carry off but we think she did it with aplomb despite subdued hair styling and makeup.

Rihanna at the 9th NRJ Music Awards in Cannes

Rihanna lived up to her recently acquired image of a young celebrity fashion icon walking the red carpet at the 9th NRJ Music Awards in Cannes, France, Saturday, January 26.

The Barbados singer won International Song of the Year for "Don't Stop The Music."

Rihanna, 19, stood out in a grey Grecian-inspired single shoulder flowing dress that grazed the floor. It accentuated her curves, ruched at the waist to her right side.

The dress had a gathered low waist at the back with a colorful striped long bow that emphasized the slight train and a knee high slit revealing Rihanna's well formed calves.

The songstress looked totally at ease and walked tall in her black high heeled basket-weave ankle-wrap strap sandals.

Her chic hair do, short and straight, revealed star tattoos on her neck and three piercing on her ears.

BET Awards Red Carpet Talk

The BET awards went down last night in Hollywood and here at Hollyscoop we want to know who was wearing what.
Beyonce Knowles rocked the red carpet in a sequined Dolce and Gabbana number. The bootylicious star wasn’t the only one sporting the Italian line.
Rapper Eve opted for a shorter D & G dress where she displayed more legs to give her animal print dress the wild touch. Alicia Keys took the simple route sporting a Michael Kors nude dress. Although Alicia didn’t sparkle like a disco ball she looked stunning.
One person that didn’t make our best dressed list was Vivica A. Fox from “Dancing With The Stars”. We honestly don’t know what she was thinking. The only explanation we have is that she kept her ballroom dress from the hit TV show for this special night.
Tell us your thoughts on who reigned the red carpet and was the Queen of the night.

Oprah, The Olsens & More Step Out For CFDA Fashion Awards

Last night in NYC, it was the Oscars of fashion, where Oprah Winfrey lead an unbelievable style parade down the red carpet.

“I’m wearing Ralph for Ralph by Ralph,” Oprah said of her outfit.

Pale pink perfection! Lady “O” arrived to awaiting photogs who were eager to get a shot of her exquisite, floor length Ralph Lauren gown at last night’s CFDA Awards.

“Ralph called me personally and he asked me to come,” Oprah explained. “I said ‘Ralph, I don't know I'm suppose to be in Africa,’ so only for Ralph would I do this!

Mary-Kate Olsen opted for classic white while twin sister Ashley held her own in a sophisticated black gown, both in their own designs.

A dapper Diddy dusted off his vintage Tom Ford tux and walked the carpet solo as did all out sexy Eva Mendes in bright pink Calvin Klein and stunning at 53, Ellen Barkin in skintight sequins.

A white hot Petra Nemcova channeled Marilyn Monroe in the night’s red carpet trend – halters.

Taking the purple plunge, Uma Thurman and Debra Messing – arriving with designer Michael Kors and out celebrating the success of “The Starter Wife.”

“I know USA has the option to turn it into a series,” Messing said. “So we'll take it one step at a time and we'll see!”

Heidi Klum sparkled in this chocolate Michael Kors still glowing after renewing her vows with husband of two years, Seal.

“It’s true,” Heidi said of their renewal. “I don’t know who always talks about [these] things.”

Celebrity Watch: Victoria Beckham at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in London

Hot off an appearance at the MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles, Victoria Beckham jetted off to her native soil to pick up an award for herself at the Glamour Women of the Year awards.

The former Spice Girl was given the award for her successful efforts in making the Beckham name a visible brand. Whatever critics may say about her fashion sense and waifish look, noone can deny her acumen as a businesswoman. She’s truly found her niche in that regard.
Popping Out

We wish we could say the same about her sense of style, judging from the outfit she chose to receive her award in, designed by Karl Lagerfeld for French design house Chanel. David’s other half made her entrance (and exit) dressed in a super-tight black bustier, cropped white jacket, fingerless motorcycle gloves and black hot pants, topped off by a pair of four-inch heels.

Granted, most mothers-of-three wouldn’t be able to fit into such a slim ensemble. But I think most mothers wouldn’t want to!! It somewhat conjures up the image of the late Princess Diana with the short blonde hair and the cropped jacket, crossed with a young rock star, who enjoys flashing her expensive pair of implants. Only Diana was way classier. And she would have never opted for black hot pants and heels, it just wasn’t in her.

Somehow Victoria can’t seem to get through a day (or an event) without showing off her symmetrical assets. And while we know the figure is real, even if the rack isn’t, we’d love to see her wearing a dress that shows actual fabric and not a fainting spell waiting to happen. I mean, who would hold up the mirror for David when he’s preening his own hair? Who else would loan him her underwear, which she’s confessed to doing? We truly hope for everyone’s sake one of her boobs does not decide to do a runner and try to escape for a breath of fresh air or, at the very least, some time away from the cameras.
