Brazilian cover girl Gisele works rock chick chic on Rio runway

Brazil's home-grown catwalk queen Gisele Bundchen was back on home turf this week to strut her stuff during Rio De Janiero fashion week. The 27-year-old beauty sashayed down the runway in three eye-catching outfits by local fashion label Cocci.

And there was rapturous applause as she opened the presentation of the fashion house's rock chick collection for autumn/winter 2008 wearing a biker jacket, garnet-hued jeans and lace-up boots. A quick change and she reappeared in a billowing puffball dress teamed with knee-length tartan boots. Her final outfit was a Vegas goddess-inspired golden lame affair.

Gisele, who was the top earning model of last year, hit headlines in 2007 with reports she only accepted payment in euros. In Brazil this week, however, the statuesque blonde put the record straight. "The euro story is a lie," she said. "I work with many international companies - I earn salaries in different currencies."

Bundchen Denies She Only Accepts Euros

Euros? Dollars? Pounds? Gisele Bundchen insists she's perfectly happy with them all, again denying reports that the Brazilian supermodel is shunning the weak U.S. dollar in favor of European currency.

Bundchen _ known to U.S. sports fans as the girlfriend of quarterback Tom Brady _ has been struggling for months to knock down recurring reports that she insists on being paid in euros, which have been rising against the dollar.

"The story of the euro is a lie," she told the Brazilian newspaper O Globo in comments published Wednesday. "I work with many international companies, I earn salaries in different currencies, that's all."

Frustration is running high in Brazil over the weak dollar and its harm to South America's largest economy.
The Brazilian real has nearly doubled in value against the dollar over the past five years, making local exports more expensive to Americans.

Bundchen, one of the world's richest models, was the main attraction at the Fashion Rio Week on Tuesday. She exhibited three outfits and drew wild applause in a puffy beige mini-dress.

Gisele Bundchen pops down under to launch footwear range

In between her busy schedule, which includes being this month's cover girl for French Vogue, Gisele Bundchen managed to squeeze in a visit to Australia to launch her new Ipanema footwear range overnight. Proceeds from the shoe line will go towards preserving waterways in the Amazon Basin.

During her quick visit down under, she also found time to meet the animals at two of Melbourne's zoos. According to local newspapers, she also spent a considerable time holed up at a five-star hotel to watch her football star boyfriend, Tom Brady, play his NFL match on TV. Ain't love grand?

Gisele Bundchen tops world’s richest model list

Gisele Bundchen has topped Forbes.com’s list of the world’s richest models, earning $US33 million ($37.6 million) in the last 12 months.


The Brazilian supermodel strutted past the likes of Kate Moss, who came in at No.2, Heidi Klum, who placed third on the list, and Australian Gemma Ward, who came in at No.10.


Bundchen, 26, parted ways with Victoria’s Secret in May and will see her lucrative contract with the lingerie brand expire at the end of the year.

Still, she boasts “more contracts than any other model on the planet,” Forbes.com said, and has appeared in campaigns for high-end brands including Apple, Dolce & Gabbana and Roberto Cavalli.

Moss, who recently launched a clothing line at British fashion retailer Topshop, ranks second with $US9 million ($10.3 million). The 33-year-old fashion icon is the new face of fashion label Stella McCartney and Italian sportswear company Belstaff.

Klum, 34, placed third with $US8 million ($9.1 million). She is a Victoria’s Secret spokesmodel and host of the US TV show “Project Runway”.

Two more Victoria’s Secret beauties — Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio — rounded out the top five with $US6 million ($6.8 million) each.

Ward was ranked in 10th position with $US3 million ($3.4 million).

In ranking these catwalkers, Forbes.com said editors also factored in a model’s “relevancy” — determined by recent campaigns, fashion magazine covers and opinions of those in the fashion industry — where necessary.

Gisele Bundchen quits as Victoria's Secret 'Angel'

Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen has reportedly ended her contract with lingerie retailer Victoria's Secret.

Bundchen's sister confirmed that the highest paid model in the world quit as the lingerie line's 'Angel' after the company refused to raise her annual salary from 5 million dollars.
According to a source, the company does not care about Bundchen going away as her demands were shocking and unacceptable.
"Her demands were outrageous. She got a new lawyer who was unrealistic," New York Post quoted the source, as saying.
"Victoria's Secret doesn't care. They have five new hotter, younger girls debuting next year. And they won't have to deal with any craziness," the source added.
Bundchen's representatives and the company have both been silent over the issue.
The Victoria's Secret Angels are the spokespersons for Victoria's Secret. Current Victoria's Secret Angels include Oluchi Onweagba, Selita Ebanks, Adriana Lima, Izabel Goulart, Alessandra Ambrosio, Karolina Kurkova, and Heidi Klum, who will probably come back from a baby-pause.

It is also rumored that Victoria's Secret did not like Bundchen putting on 15 lbs.
Bundchen revealed that she gained weight after she quit smoking.
"When you stop smoking you gain weight, because food tastes better than when it tasted like ashtray," TMZ quoted Bundchen, as saying.
The sudden weight gain was linked to the supermodel being pregnant with current boyfriend American footballer Tom Brady's child.
However, that time her family rubbished the buzz while Bundchen and Brady made no comments.
